Janet - thank you most graciously. Yes, heat is missing - maybe that's
because I don't feel the heat much. Others melt and I go for a walk. Go
figure. But the shopping centre is simply that in Bassendean - Coles at one
end, Woolies the other, plastic video store, banks, Post office, lotto
kiosk, optician, daggy fashion store, Vietnamese bakery, etc. Ordinary. The
detail was meant to evoke that ordinariness: eg, when my pretentious
intellectualisms about metaphor and language gets interupted by language in
its living form: 'Hot enough for you?' from the mouth of the Goddess's
devotee.
I see something in there that no one has mentioned! Damn. There's Gloria (in
excelsius Deo), there's butcher or priest (qatheist vs believer), there's
'Magic Happens' (part of the Goddess Dances or somesuch New Age twang),
there's consumerism in 'late capitalism': my subtext is this spiritual
tension whilst shopping ... & it is buried so deep no one mentioned it.
Bugger.
Back to the drawing board.
