Dear All,
I feel that we owe a sincere apology to Tom Pinney regarding the
question of Kipling's dogs. I hide behind the first person plural
because nearly all of us have invested ( I use the term advisedly) in
the six volumes of the Letters.
In the index to Volume Six, on page 483, you will find no less than 77
references to the family dogs, many with cross-referenced research and
background commentary. This represents a great deal of Tom's time and
expertise, yet I, for one, relied only on the internet, and on the
biographies to hand.
Remembering how the mailbase group has, in the past, debated far less
significant questions, I feel that we should all spend a while with
Volume 6, and then contact Tom to thank him for his efforts. I have
already apologised to him for my own "research" methods.
With best regards,
John
