Dear Richard,
I have heard of small mines being called after trees, and there is quite a
large Yew Tree Mine in Yorks.. There is also a Yew Tree Mine in Weardale (a
small mine), one of the mines on a Sett I leased back in the 1980's. I have
heard Hazel used (Hazel Grove - N.Wales), and I am sure there are quite a few
others about. As to Mid-Wales, such would only come out of translation - and to
be honest, I have never given this thought around here. I am sure there must
be some shafts and indeed adits named, but can't think of any as I write -
but will think about this!
Regards, Bernard
