RESEARCH FELLOW/ASSISTANT IN STATISTICS (REF: LR09)
For the IIDII (Second Infectious Intestinal Disease Study)
The LSHTM is recruiting a statistician to assist
with the analysis of a large collaborative study
of gastroenteritis in England: the Second
Infectious Intestinal Disease Study, IID2. The
first such study was conducted 10 years ago and
was influential in defining policy in England.
The study is funded by the Food Standards Agency
of England and aims to (i) estimate the burden
and causes of infectious intestinal disease (IID)
in the population and compare these results with
national surveillance data, using prospective
methods; (ii) estimate the burden of
self-reported IID in each UK nation using a
telephone survey and to (iii) compare the results
of the telephone and prospective methodologies.
The project team at LSHTM is responsible for
developing the analytical strategies and
conducting the statistical analyses for all
components of the IID2 study (in collaboration
with the Medical Research Council General
Practice Research Framework (MRC GPRF), the
University of Manchester and the Health Protection Agency).
The post is based at the LSHTM and will be
appointed at Research Assistant/Research Fellow
(salary range £30,639 to £35,913). Applicants
for the post must have a postgraduate
qualification in Medical Statistics, Epidemiology
or a related field. The successful candidate will
have experience of management of large, complex
epidemiological databases, as well as advanced
analysis of epidemiological data, have good
scientific writing skills and be able to work
under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
