Apologies for cross-posting
ANNOUNCEMENT
Below you will find a brief outline for a panel on 'Sociologies of War,
Terror and Security' for the ECPR General Conference this year in
Potsdam (10-12
September) which might be interesting for some of you. Please send paper
proposals following this link:
http://www.ecpr.org.uk/potsdam/panel_details.asp?panelID=223
The panel will be in the Open Section. Proposals are required by the 1st
of February.
This panel will explore what distinctive sociological approaches can
contribute toward the explanation and understanding of these issues. It
will present papers which undertake sociological reflection on the
relation of war, military organization, security apparatuses and terror
to wider society. Themes could include militarisation, new wars, the
arms industry, the politics of fear, sociologies of terrorism and
security apparatuses, or papers may discuss broad theoretical
frameworks. There is no theoretical, ideological or methodological
mandate, but panel participants will be asked to address the capacities
and limitations of sociology as a medium for explanation and
understanding of these issues.
Best wishes
