Lovely walk, Andrew. Is that a Eucalyptus - the big tree doing the strip tease with is bark (no dog pun, intended!) Some mislead somebody conned California into reforesting itself with Eucalyptus' early in the 20th century. Course the wood is no good for building - cracking up all over the place! But depending on the kind, the trees, especially the oldest ones in San Francisco's Golden Gate are quite majestic and beautiful - so screw utility. Got to be careful with some of the kinds - they are shallow rooted and dangerous to be around in heavy winds.
Australia and California - two 'settler' nations with lots of bad history mixed with often - when not brutalized for profit - great beauty.
Happy holidays to all, yeah, enjoy them to what remains of the 'hilt' - 2009 looks to be like a ride down one of those chutes to the ground off the side a crashed & burning plane!
& a wild parade of new words for poetryetc in the new year -
