Snap: My Glaucoma
While we were out this afternoon,
my eye specialist, Mr Poon,
left a message on our home phone.
My wife has it linked to her mobile
which signals that there's something new.
So standing in the Westpac queue
she checked (which I couldn't do)
and heard the voice though indistinct
of Poon on my glaucoma test.
She met me outside, compassion
in her eye, 'it seems they've found in-
cipient glaucoma, darling.'
I held myself so stoically,
foreseeing disability,
and, at length, surgery.
'Let's just check the call again -
it should be clearer here outside.'
This time distinct the voice of Poon
informed us the test shows no sign
of glaucoma. After my stoic minute
I felt rather let down.
