It is hard to believe that this time last week I was worried about not
having the cash to purchase fresh food for the weekend (expensive in my
case also due to being strictly gluten intolerant) and yesterday I went
out and brought a brand new Toshiba Satellite L300 notebook computer!
It may be the very bottom of the line model and I do have some dollars
left over especially after cash back but I have taken our Prime Minister
in good faith that in return for spending my pension bonus, our pensions
will be increased to cover basic cost of living expenses.
It has a 64 bit Celeron chip, 1GB of RAM, a 120GB hard drive... there is
Windows Vista Premium, ah well, beggars can't be choosers, Fedora Linux
9 installs nicely on a test install if I use the 64 bit version. So it
looks like all I need do is write a better partition table, re-install
Fedora 9 and I can go mission critical and still be able to boot into
Vista if I really need to.
And a computer with a monitor that doesn't change colours and flicker on
a whim like the CRT monitor on my old desktop computer. Amazing how much
this has improved my health, BTW.
