I'm sorry, Jon, I was being bad-tempered
{In the wake of [possibly] discovering the background to "Morts, Doxies,
Strumpets, Buttocks, Blowings".}
But Pound's reworking of the Fenellosa MSS in _The Chinese Written
Character_ was one of the great creative misunderstandings of all time, on a
par with losing the paint on archaic Greek stutuary.
His and Yeats's work on the Noh plays, in comparison, was a total dead end.
And utterly parasitic on the Fenellosa MSS passed onto Pound by Fenellosa's
widow.
Nah?
