medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

publishers, at 790 euros in paperback, or an eye-watering 1140 euros in
half-leather... (plus VAT if appropriate)
not a question of hard enough looking, but of looking only for used copies (on
http://bookfinder.com) --it never occured to me that it would still be "in
print."
it's quite a very nice, early '70s technology, facsimile --complete and full
size (the thing is *huge*, an "elephant folio" of several hundred folios,
almost all of which are illuminated)-- with some color plates, but mostly B&W,
on thick, parchment-like stock, and nice introductions by Clemens & Dodwell
(which i have OCRed copies of, should anyone be interested in seeing them).
but apparently there are many more colored illuminations than those which are
reproduced in the facsimile.
several years ago i corresponded with Benjamin Withers (Chair, Department of
Art, U. of Kentucky, Lexington) about a project which he was engaged in at
that time to publish a CD of the whole ms, but neglected to follow up with him
and need to rattle his cage and see what the status of that is at present.
a CD facsimile would be quite stunning, i think, as there are literally
*hundreds* of illuminations --some full page (elephant folio, remember), some
2-4 per page-- interspersed throughout the text (which must be one of the
lengthiest of all surviving O.E. mss).
in short, a *massive*, de Lux production, apparently from the 1040s or so.
i know of no other ms from the High M.A. which can compare to it, in size and
quality.
