Dear Cherry,
Your are right to be disgruntled, but its been spoken about for a while now,
see this editorial

In response to this eloquant Personal View

And while the standard of care the NHS is allowed to aspire too is set by
accountants with no interest in the output except fixing the counting to
make it look good, then the consequence will be a Morris Ital, the
population having been told they should get a BMW 3 series a standard to
which the staff would love to reach and would sustain their motivation even
if it takes to their retirement holds in the tension between the realities
the nub of most of the problems.
(And do not believe it is not known how to run a health service cheaply and
effectively, if you read "Redefining Health Care" Porter and Teisberg you
will find that the altruism of health care staff is not an acceptable view
to the political class the world over, curiously however, were it has been
allowed to rule and the making of 'profit' has been socially unacceptable
allowing the consequent sharing of data in large well organised and
independant trials, then you find childhood cancer treatment outcomes and
the cost of those outcomes have improved way better than outcomes in any
other part of medicine in the last 25years. )

And is being compassionate any compensation for lousy care given to our
elderly because quality nursing is not valued, unskilled "carers" are used
and the care is not great all the time (yes, some of it is very good), and
who can speak for these elderly people.
