Subject: Darwin Today Exhibition
Dear Matthew
I am a freelance Science Communication and Education consultant working
with the BBRSC (Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council)
and RCUK (Research Councils UK) to develop an exhibition for Darwin Year
(2009), which describes the continuing influence of Darwin's theory of
evolution by natural selection. The exhibition does not cover the
history of Darwin himself or major on the fossil record/natural history.
It does however, cover conservation, biodiversity and evolution of birds
from dinosaurs.
We are looking for venues that might be interested in hosting this
exhibition?
I have attached a leaflet describing the style of the exhibition. The
exhibition is designed as a collection of pods. Each pod consists of a
2m(h) x 3m(w) self-supporting rear panel, two lecterns with information
boards and an A4 factsheet.
Pods can be mixed as they are all self-contained (pod 1 acts as an
introduction and can be used as a standalone mini-exhibition).
Options include two cutout figures for use at the entrance to the
exhibition or venue reception, an interactive giant tortoise model and
computer kiosks with information and games.
The costs of producing and transporting the exhibition will be covered
by the Research Councils.
Ideally we would like the venues to host the exhibit for 2 weeks
minimum, up to 6 weeks maximum. The exhibition is available from March
to end of December next year.
We would be interested in helping venues develop associated activities
that use the exhibition as a backdrop eg. schools visits, debates etc.
