Workshop Format for Archaeological Ontologies Session at TAG (Southampton 17.12.08)
The session on Archaeological Ontologies at TAG in Southampton on Weds 17 December,
will run as a workshop, rather than a conventional session. The aim is to promote
genuine discussion through this format, which is rarely possible in a one-directional series
of talks.
The session outline and paper abstracts are here -
http://www.tagconference.org/content/title-follow
The speakers are Andy Jones, Dan Hicks, Ben Alberti (with Yvonne Marshall), Mary
Leighton, Tom Yarrow, Matt Edgeworth, Hannah Cobb (with Oliver Harris, Cara Jones, Phil
Richardson), Sandy Budden, John Robb, and Jim Dixon (with Lisa Hill). The workshop will
comprise two sections - one on situated knowledge, and one on fieldwork.
The workshop will include, after two blocks of papers, half-hour break-out discussion
groups with the audience, chaired by Andy Jones, Dan Hicks and Josh Pollard. These more
informal discussion groups will then reconvene for two longer, plenary periods of
discussion about the session theme.
To achieve this dialogue, we shall be asking people to sign up in advance to attend the
session (all day), so we can keep numbers at a manageable level, and can achieve
genuine dialogue. While the aim is for genuine discussion, we promise not to put anyone
on the spot!
If you wish to attend the workshop, please send an email to [log in to unmask]
with your name. Please arrive for the start of proceedings at 9.30 sharp.
You must be registered for the TAG conference first - see
http://www.tagconference.org/2008 Participation will be limited, and will be on a first
come first served basis.
Any queries, please write to [log in to unmask]
We'll look forward to trying out this experimental format at TAG!
