1.3 Call for papers: Association for Learning Technology Journal
(ALT-J) Special Issue 2009: Mobile and Contextual Learning.

1.4 ALT are working with BDP Learning and representative FE system
partners to deliver and support a new workforce development programme
'the eCPD Programme' on behalf of the Learning and Skills Improvement
Service (LSIS).
ALT is looking for providers in the FE system to nominate a member of
staff to be trained as a Professional Development Adviser (PDA) who
will champion e-learning teaching approaches across your organisation
and will support you to:
* meet eCPD needs, any time, any place and fulfill part of the
IfL Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements;
* create action plans to make more effective use of technology
across your organisation to support and enhance learning;
* develop a coherent and strategic approach to providing
flexible access to learning any time, any place and to engage and
improve learner outcomes and deliver new demand-led markets;
We are receiving nominations for PDAs now as the first training days
start in January so don't miss this opportunity to get involved! The

2.1 CMALT Workshops: ALT are running two workshops: 17 December 2008
First workshop: 11.00 - 12.30
Second workshop: 13.30 - 15.00
Delegates are welcome to attend either, with the option of lunch.

2.2 One day conference: Supporting and enhancing learning through the
effective use of technology, 5 February 2009, Central London, UK.
For all those engaged in the Further Education (FE) system, an
invitation to share good practice at the national launch conference
for the eCPD Enhancing Learning Programme. BDP Learning, ALT and a
consortium of FE partners have been commissioned to deliver the
programme on behalf of the Learning and Skills Improvement Service
(LSIS).

3.1 HEFCE contributes to debate on the future of higher education
HEFCE has provided a report on understanding higher education (HE)
institutional performance as part of a government debate about the

3.2 The next Higher Education - Business and Community Interaction
(HE-BCI) survey is now open and available to all UK higher education
institutions (HEIs). HEFCE and Northern Ireland institutions were
informed of this in HEFCE Circular Letter 29/2008, which can be viewed

academic year (August to end July) 2007-08, and the deadline for

3.3 Clinical lectureship scheme benefits research staff
A mid-term review of the Clinical Senior Lectureship Awards scheme
shows senior medical school staff are optimistic about the impact the
scheme will have on the capacity and sustainability of the clinical
academic community.

3.4 JISC Innovating e-Learning 2008
The third JISC online conference: Innovating e-Learning 2008 - ran
between 4-7 November and attracted nearly 400 delegates from higher
and further education.Presentations and papers from the conference
will be of interest to researchers, practitioners and thinkers in the
field of pedagogic innovation in both further and higher education.
