Salary: £36,532 - £43,622 pa
We are looking for a self-motivated and efficient candidate to fill
this post within the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in the
Botnar Research Centre. The post-holder will support the research,
consulting and teaching activities in the NIHR Biomedical Research Unit
and work closely with a team of rheumatologists, orthopaedic surgeons
and bio-engineers. The Applicant will take a lead role in statistical
analysis of large datasets and take responsibility for the methodology
for developing the predictive tool. The post-holder will be working with
the Centre of Statistics in Medicine group in Oxford for the predictive
modelling and with a health economist at the University of Southampton
on projects involving cost-effectiveness modelling. The applicant will
also provide statistical supervision and mentorship for junior
statisticians and data managers within the unit. The appointed applicant
will be responsible for developing and overseeing independent and
original research on innovative and creative methodologies and
techniques appropriate to analysing large datasets. This post will also
include writing bids for research grants in collaboration with NHS and
University staff.
Candidates should have an MSc in statistics (minimum 2:1); at least
three years work experience in bio-statistics; extensive knowledge of
medical statistics and expertise in handling large datasets. Expertise
in statistical packages such as SAS, Stata and SPSS is essential and
knowledge of other software such as Microsoft Access, MLwiN and S-Plus
would be desirable. You will have the ability to communicate results
effectively with colleagues in any discipline and develop novel
approaches to analysis. A higher education teaching qualification and a
good publication record are also desirable.
