Hi Jane and all
Been following this with interest as we have the emergency cord
placed in the transfer zone, near the toilet so it can be used when
sitting, in Design for Access 2 so that it is also accessible for
anyone who falls off the toilet (in peninsular layouts). It is
obviously a difficult issue and we often find the cord tied up when
we do surveys. It is difficult to know where to put the cord in
larger toilet areas and think that the strip idea definitely has
merits but we have been told it is not the wheelchair wheels that are
likely to cause problems but cleaning machines which could trigger the strip.
It would have been useful for BS8300 to commission research on this
issue when they reviewed their standards but maybe someone else could
initiate a project!
Best wishes
Flick
