Job Description
The University of Agder is Norway's youngest university with activities
in Kristiansand, Grimstad and Arendal. The academic activity is
organized at 5 faculties. The University of Agder has more than 8500
students and 940 employees.
The University of Agder invites applications for a permanent position as
Professor in Religious Studies at the Department of Religion, Philosophy
and History, Faculty of Humanities and Education. The department has ca.
30 academic positions.
The department offers one-year courses, Bachelor's and Master's
programmes in religion and history, and is responsible for instruction
in religion, life stance and ethics in the university's teacher
education programmes (Pre-School Teacher Education, General Teacher
Education and Postgraduate Certificate in Education). The department is
also responsible for the PhD programme in Religion, Ethics and Society.
The position is currently located in Kristiansand, Norway.
The department's academic milieu is characterized at all levels by the
study of the nuanced relation between the Christian faith and other
religions in modern society, exploring religion and ethics from
theological, philosophical and social scientific viewpoints. The
emphasis of the department's current competence is on the Christian
faith. The department is therefore seeking a Professor with expertise in
religions other than Christianity and in comparative religion.
Applicants must have extensive research experience in religion in
contemporary societies, and experience in empirical studies of "lived
religion" is preferred.
The Professor will contribute to teaching and research supervision at
all levels within the subject area, with particular responsibility for
the Master's degree and PhD levels. The Professor will be expected to be
an active researcher and provide leadership in planning and developing
new research activities at the department. The applicant must have
experience in international collaboration in the field.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
My addition: Applicants do not have to speak Norwegian - but they must
be willing to learn Norwegian in order to be able to teach in that
language after a couple of years.
