POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN THEORETICAL CHEMISTRY
A postdoctoral position in theoretical physical chemistry is
available in the group of Prof. Spiridoula Matsika in the Department
of Chemistry at Temple University, Philadelphia. The position is
available immediately. The initial appointment will be for one year
with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement.
The research of the group focuses on theoretical description of
excited electronic states and nonadiabatic processes. Presently a
position is available in a DOE funded research project "Combining
High Level Ab Initio Calculations with Laser Control of Molecular
Dynamics", in collaboration with the experimental group of Prof.
Thomas Weinacht at SUNY Stony Brook. The project aims at understanding
the underlying mechanisms involved in laser control of basic chemical
reactions, such as fragmentation and isomerization. The postdoctoral
fellow will work on electronic structure and quantum dynamics
calculations that will be used to provide information to interpret
and guide the control. Other ongoing projects involve the development
and application of computational methods for the study of nonadiabatic
processes in biologically relevant systems. The effect of conical
intersections in these processes is of particular interest. The
postdoctoral fellow may be involved in more than one project depending
on his/her interests and background.
Highly motivated candidates with a strong background in theoretical
chemistry, physics or related fields are encouraged to apply. The
candidate should have experience in scientific programming, ab initio
electronic structure methods and/or molecular dynamics. Interested
applicants should send a CV and arrange for three recommendation
letters to be sent directly to the address below. Any questions can
