Dear Colleagues,

DATES FOR REGIONAL SHINE WORKSHOPS

Apologies for cross-posting.

As some of you may be aware, SHINE (Selected Heritage Inventory for
Natural England) is being designed to update and replace the SNHD
(Selected National Heritage Dataset) and will involve local authorities
submitting data directly from their HER. This data will be used to
populate environmental information maps with historic environment
features, which will then be sent out to Environmental Stewardship
applicants. We hope that this enhanced data provision will greatly
improve the number of monuments under beneficial management within the
scheme. We intend to begin the initial stages of data collection from the
beginning of next year, and we would like to encourage HERs to consider
the possibility of scheduling in some time over the coming months to help
us enhance this vitally important dataset. Additional information
regarding the SHINE project can be found at
http://www.algao.org.uk/cttees/countryside/es-els.htm

ALGAO, together with Natural England, are running a series of regional
workshops designed to explain what SHINE is, why it is needed and how it
will work. I am hoping to be able to walk people through the workflow
developed by exeGesIS and run a demonstration of how it will work - there
will also be plenty of time to discuss how SHINE might operate within
individual HERs and answer any questions that you have. The details of
these regional workshops are listed below.

Southeast

Northwest

You are invited to attend any of these workshops, regardless of which
region you work in. I would be very grateful if you could confirm your
attendance via email to me ([log in to unmask]) as soon as
possible, including details of which workshop you're planning to attend,
so that we can cater accordingly. I am hoping to be able to provide lunch
- more details, including directions to the venues, will be provided
nearer the time.

These workshops are likely to be of use to both HER Officers as well as
countryside archaeologists (i.e. those members of staff who undertake work
relating to agri-environment schemes). All are welcome, and it may be
appropriate (workloads permitting) for authorities to send more than one
representative these workshops.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any queries.

All the very best, and a Merry Christmas to all!

Elaine
