The organisation
The Forensic Science Service is the leading supplier of forensic
science services to the criminal justice system in England and Wales.
As a company owned by the UK government, we are at the forefront of
forensic science technology and have an unrivalled reputation for the
integrity, impartiality and accuracy of our findings.
The role
The role will involve performing research to address challenging
statistical problems in the interpretation of scientific forensic
evidence; to provide internal consultancy and training across the
organisation; to support casework.
Our current statistical research includes Bayesian networks, pattern
recognition, censored data analysis, multidimensional kernel density
estimation and extreme value theory.
The person
We need a highly motivated person who relishes the challenge of
helping to solve crime. You should have a Ph D in Statistics, some
experience on consultancy and programming in a statistical package
such as R or Matlab. Excellent organizational and communication skills
will be essential.
