I'm not exactly sure of the workings of MATLAB, but the functions may be
cached until you type:
clear functions
I would guess that you have a directory in your path (ahead of where you put
the updates) that has an spm_sample_vol.m, but not an spm_sample_vol.mexa64.
This will cause it to try to use the spm_sample_vol.m, which causes this
error:
spm_sample_vol.c not compiled - see Makefile
Orthviews catches this error and gives the "can not be resampled" message.
