Transport Research Activities in Korea
Abstract
The Korea government established several research institutes such as
The Korea Transport Institute (KOTI), Korea Maritime Institute (KMI)
and Korea Research Institute for Human Settlement (KRIHS). These
government research institutes are playing important roles to plan
and evaluate government policy directions of transportation.
This presentation will focus research activities of KOTI in the field
of road transport, ITS and public transport. KOTI, as a leading
transport research institute, is investigating various issues
including 3 major Research and Development projects that are
scheduled to run until the year 2012. These projects of these are:
" Development of the key technologies for ubiquitous transportation systems,
" Intermodal connectivity and transfer system technology development, and
" Development of new technologies for traffic safety.
Recently, the research activities focused on the effects on transport
arising from consideration of climate changes and planning for peak
oil. All of these projects have possibilities to have cooperation
with UK academics and suggestions for this will be opened to the
participants at the seminar.
