The intel tiger download will work fine on leopard.

actually says:
"The Intel OS X 10.4 distribution will work on Intel OS X 10.5 as
well."
Are you running the lehuakona release (made yesterday) or an earlier
release?
I think the problem will be that the intel IDL binary won't be able to
dynamically load the PPC shared library. This is just a guess since I
don't know the error message you are getting.
