Yes - seems to be the case. To check I wasn't mistaken (it was late!) I've
just downloaded a completely new field, RA 03 40 00 DEC 10 00 00 15'x15'
from POSSII.
Autoastrom on the command line:
autoastrom -catalogue=2mass@cds -maxfit=4 image1
gives:
--I ASTROM determined a 4-parameter fit.
--I RMS of current fit: 0.62943 arcseconds.
--I Difference to previous RMS: 0.00000 arcseconds.
--I WCS updated in image1.
--I Updated WCS of objects in detected object catalogue.
Gaia autoastrom (using 2mass as the reference) gives:
