Dear All,

Copied below is a flier from the BSA relating to an event for PG students. I
thought that this might be of interest to PG members of this study group or
for non-PG members, students at your institutions.

Best wishes,

Angharad.

An Evening with
Anthony Heath
Monday 8th December 2008, 17:30-19:30

British Library Conference Centre, London

The BSA Postgraduate forum is pleased to announce Professor Anthony Heath
as the subsequent host for the forthcoming ‘An Evening with…’ event. These
exclusive events are designed specifically for postgraduate students to meet
well-respected sociologists in an informal and interactive setting.

Anthony Heath is presently Professor of Sociology at Oxford University and
Professorial Fellow at Nuffield College. In this intimate setting, Anthony will
discuss his most recent book Unequal chances: Ethnic Minorities in Western
Labour Markets published by Oxford University Press (2007) which focuses on
the experiences of the 'second generation', children of immigrants, in a range
of affluent western countries, such as Western Europe, North America,
Australia and Israel.

There will also be a discussion about ethnicity, nationalism, identity and social
cohesion in the current climate. These are all topics on which Professor Heath
has written recent reports for government. Questions and feedback from
audience members are encouraged.

Places for this event are free and are limited to BSA postgraduate members. In
the event that these places are not filled the invitation will be extended to
the broader BSA membership. If you are not a BSA member, membership starts
from £28 and further details are available from www.britsoc.co.uk/join

To reserve your place for this event, please send an email to
[log in to unmask] Please make the subject "An evening with Anthony
Heath" and tell us your full name, postal address and contact telephone
number. Please also tell us if you have any special requirements (e.g. hearing
loop required). Your place will be confirmed by email and further details will be
provided.
