Dear June,
the batch editor has moved to a separate MATLAB figure in SPM8. If you
are running on Linux/Unix, your window manager may or may not rise this
figure automatically.
Also the handling of not-yet-existing outputs has changed. Instead of
subject/data-specific virtual files, one can now specify dependencies
between processing steps. These dependencies are not
subject/data-specific and will not be resolved to filenames until the
job is actually executed. If there are outputs available that can be
used as inputs to another processing step, a "Dependency" button will
appear in the batch manager next to the "Specify Files" or "Edit Value"
button.
For an example how to set up an fMRI first-level analysis, please see
the SPM8b manual (manual.pdf in the "man" folder of your SPM8b
installation). There is a chapter "Batch interface" to guide you through
the setup of a batch job.
Hope this helps,
Volkmar
