Mike Tibbets, one of the people who conceived the BBC Domesday Project,
recently put forward his side of the story.
It is available in the Risks Digest (Forum on Risks to the Public in
Computers and Related Systems) Volume 25 Issue 44 at
http://catless.ncl.ac.uk/Risks/25.44.html#subj7
It makes for very interesting reading indeed.

Subject: Digital Domesday
Dear all
I've been reading the debate with some interest, and I've seen that the
BBC Domesday project has been raised in the course of discussion. You
may be interested to know that more information can be found on the huge
effort to preserve the BBC Domesday at the National Archives website
here http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/preservation/research/rescue.htm
and, for those interested, the original 1086 Domesday can be found here
as well (along with a handy translation)
