The 17th Annual GIS Research (UK) conference will take place from Wednesday
1 April to Friday 3 April 2009 at Durham University in the North East of
England. You are cordially invited to participate in the leading GIS
research conference in the UK, and to contribute to this lively and
wide-ranging meeting designed to showcase progress and research in all areas
of geographic information science.
Additional linked events will be the The Young Researchers' Forum which will
take place on the afternoon of Tuesday 31 March and the morning of Wednesday
1 April; and a workshop on advanced geospatial statistical techniques
scheduled for the morning of Wednesday 1 April.
Two high-profile European GIS researchers have been invited to give keynote
presentations.
Accommodation will be in Grey College, Durham University
(http://www.dur.ac.uk/grey.college/), adjacent to the main Science Campus of
the University. The lecture programme will be presented in the brand-new
conference facilities of the Calman Building
(http://www.dur.ac.uk/its/services/audio_visual/calman/). Social events
will include a conference dinner in Durham Castle
(http://www.dur.ac.uk/university.college/conferences/) and an excursion on
the River Tyne (http://www.riverescapes.co.uk/). Costs will be similar to
last year.
The usual mix of GISRUK's academic rigour, social friendliness and
interesting location is expected.

Call for Papers. Please distribute this widely to your contacts and within
your own institution. This site will be updated regularly in the next few
months - it will be possible to register on-line when registrations towards
the end of this year.
The QMRG are able to offer up to four post graduate student bursaries for
the 2009 GISRUK conference. These bursaries will cover the full registration
cost at the student rate. To be eligible for a bursary you will need a full
paper accepted in the main program. We usually have more applications than
bursaries so will assign them on a competitive basis. To apply for a
