Great - horrendously busy before Xmas but could you suggest a time early
in January?

Hi,
Based in Newcastle University, we could just meet in town over a coffee
or something!

Hi
Alex, yes, meeting up sounds like a great idea. Where are you based?
Maybe we can find a location that's not too far for anyone who wants to
come along and discuss this.

Hi,
Well Jude are you interested to meet and discuss the idea? See what we
come up with?

Hi
Following on from Alex's idea, yes, if ever we want to start a parallel
network of participatory musicians, count me in. I perform and
facilitate occasional workshops as a singer and instrumentalist (various
woodwind and guitar/keys) and programming arrangements on computer.
Participatory soundtracks anyone?
Cheers
Jude

Hello,
This is a great idea. I wondered Chris there are probably a few of us
who are musicians/know musicians. I play guitar and bass for
example...what about some kind of a participatory music to go with
participatory film....

Subject: Creative Commons Music
I've been trying to find a good source of creative commons or free music
(ie stuff you can use in the sorts of films we make without having to
apply for permission or paying a fee), for some time now. I looked
again this week, and it seems like it's suddenly taken off on it's own.
In fact, I read that the amount of cc-licenced music on the net is
doubling every 4 months at the moment - exponential growth. So I've
compiled a list of sites you could look for songs and music on for
soundtracks at:
http://delicious.com/posthelion/ccmusic
I'm sure there's stuff out there for sound-effects too, but I haven't
looked yet.
You still need to look at the detail of the licence. Usually the site
or the individual track will have a link through to the creative commons
website. Sometimes you'll see a line that says something like "cc by
sa". Have a look at: http://creativecommons.org/about/licenses
<http://creativecommons.org/about/licenses>for a description of what
each set of letters (or the corresponding symbol) means. Each one is a
condition about how you can use the media. The one to watch for is nd
(no derivatives), as using music as a soundtrack on a film makes the
film a derivative work. You almost always have to attribute the work,
which is indicated with by (simplest way to do this is to give your film
credits and credit the person or group who made the track), and you
might need to make your work creative commons as well if there's a sa
(share-alike) condition.
It's a massive resource and I fell in love with the internet all over
again (it's been a while now). If you find any more, let me know.
