CANADIAN SOCIETY FOR HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE--CALL FOR PAPERS
The Canadian Society for History and Philosophy of Science (CSHPS) is holding its annual conference as part of the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences (CFHSS) at Carleton University, Ottawa, 26-28 May, 2009.
The CSHPS program committee invites historians and philosophers of science, as well as scholars from any field whose work relates to History and Philosophy of science/Science and Technology Studies, to submit abstracts for both individual papers and sessions. Submissions may be in English or French. All submissions will be blind refereed.
Individual paper submissions should consist of a title, a brief abstract of 150-250 words, and complete contact information for the author. Session proposals should consist of a session title, titles and brief abstracts for each paper, and complete contact information for all proposed speakers. We encourage submissions for sessions that connect to the main theme for the Congress, which this year is "Capital Connections: nation, terroir,
territoire": an exploration of whether and how globalization has affected identity as physical space--the space of a people, a nation, and their historic 'terroir'. Other sessions relevant to HPS/STS topics are also very welcome.
Submissions for either individual papers or sessions will be accepted by e-mail only at [log in to unmask], preferably as attachments in either MS-WORD, RTF, or PDF. Membership in the CSHSP is required for a paper to be presented at the Congress. Individuals whose papers have been accepted will be requested to join CSHPS for a modest membership fee.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: 9 February 2008.
Students: CSHPS offers a book prize (the Richard Hadden Award) for the
best student paper presented at the meeting. Details of this award can be found at http://www.yorku.ca/cshps1/HaddenPrize.htm.
Joint Session Proposals: Please note that the CSHPS meeting overlaps with
the meeting dates of a number of other member societies of the CFHSS,
including: the Canadian Historical Association, the Canadian Philosophical Association, the Canadian Sociology Association, the Canadian Society for the History of Medicine, the Canadian Women Studies Association, and the Environmental Studies Association of Canada. The CSHPS program committee welcomes suggestions for joint sessions with these and other societies.
