from the dreaded Catholic Encyclopedia. At least, it gives the correct citation for the Augustine quotation I cited.
It would seem the symbolism of the eagle and of the peacock were conflated if one is to find a symbol of baptism in the image. And the peacock is indeed Juno's bird. The fable about the pair has to do with fine feathers making it impossible to soar, a caution against too strong a desire to look swell.
