Professor of Film
School of English, Film, Theatre, & Media Studies
Victoria University of Wellington is committed to the future development of its
creative disciplines. The new role of Professor of Film is regarded as key to
realising a vision for the study of film that is consistent with it being situated
in the creative capital city, Wellington, and that builds on the Film
Programme’s existing strengths in integrating practical creative work with
theoretical study.
The Professor will provide leadership in teaching and research directed, in the
medium term, towards establishing a Centre for New Cinema and an
interdisciplinary Master of Cinema Arts degree.
The substantive position will be that of Professor and the appointee will also
act as Programme Director, and will work closely with the Head of School and
Film staff to further developments in the Film Programme and eventually the
Centre.
The role of Professor is a permanent position, while the role of Programme
Director is a fixed term appointment for a period of 3 years.
An advanced research degree and an appropriate international research profile
that may include creative or practical film work are required. Also important is
the ability to build positive working relationships within the discipline and of an
interdisciplinary nature and a record of contribution and productive
relationships beyond the academic domain.
