Dear Shona
I worked with a company called Lateral Visions (http://lateralvisions.co.uk/ ) on a project with excluded young people to produce a computer game for Belsay Hall, near Newcastle. See www.middletonmystery.co.uk. The game is played on site and a demo can be downloaded from the website; however, Lateral Visions' newly launched 3D web technology will do the same but will enable games to be played online- it allows for fully 3D games that run in a browser, just like the 2D Flash games on www.show.me.uk. These games are fun and exciting as well as educational. I will be speaking about my project with the Managing Director from LV at the Bits 2 Blogs IT training day at the University of Teesside on 5 Feb which is being organised by the NE Museums Hub if you want to see the game being demonstrated and have a chat. I would thoroughly recommend LV who are good at understanding the need for historical accuracy and integrity as well as being prepared to work with the client whether it be young people or members of staff. They are also good an working to tight budgets and timescales!
Best wishes
Lynne

Subject: Online Computer Games
I'm currently looking to add an online game to our museum website. I have found some amazing museum games online (particular at show.me.uk), and think this is something our website would benefit from. Has anyone here had experience in commissioning a game and would recommend any companies (or people) they have used in the past to create their own online games? Our game would be aimed at children aged 8-14, and be about the history of Hartlepool.
I would be grateful for any information or helpful tips.
Thanks.
