A brief update :
Two retirements and one appointment:
In the summer of 2008 Oxford University Library Services said farewell to
two of its long standing colleagues. In June, Martyn Minty, librarian at the
Oriental Institute, retired after 37 years of continuous service to the
Institute, including the last seven years that his responsibilities expanded
to developing the Middle Eastern studies related collection at the Bodleian
library. Martyn will be missed for his “enviable knowledge and
understanding of Oxford libraries”.
His retirement was followed by the retirement of Lesley Forbes in September.
Lesley joined the University in 1999, when the Bodleian library and the
university library services as a whole were going through major structural
changes. She played an important role in that process and was instrumental
in centralising the Oxford University Library Services, now better known as
OULS. Lesley Forbes’ retirement marks an end of an era. She was the last
in the long line of Oriental Keepers in Oxford. From October 2008 the
responsibility for Oriental collections was moved to the jurisdiction of
Special Collections.
Oxford University Library Services (OULS) is pleased to announce the
appointment of Dr Dinah Manisty, who will be responsible for the selection
and acquisition of the printed materials that relate to Middle Eastern &
Islamic studies. Dinah will be responsible for collection development at
both the Bodleian library and the Oriental Institute library. She can be
