Apologies for cross-posting.

Just to let you know we still have a few places left on the FOLIO Promoting
and Marketing Library and Information Services course. If you are interested
in registering, please see the instructions below.

*******
ScHARR Information Resources are pleased to announce that the National
Library for Health is funding the FOLIO 'Promoting and Marketing Library and
Information Services' (ProMISe) Course to begin on Monday 17 November 2008
(this is a re-run of the course which took place earlier this year and in 2006).
We are currently collecting registrations; so if you would like to take part in
this course, please follow the instructions below. Please note that there are
50 places available on a “first come, first served” basis, any additional
registrations will be put on a waiting list and will be contacted should anyone
withdraw their registration.

Information about the course:
'Promoting and Marketing Library and Information Services' (ProMISe)
Monday 17 November 2008 – Friday 23 January 2009 [please note that this
includes a break between 22 December-5 January]

Course aim...
The ProMISe course aims to help participants gain an understanding and
appreciation for the value and importance of marketing and promotion in any
type of library or information service.

Course objectives...
By the end of the ProMISe course participants will be able to:
•	Understand the process of marketing as it specifically relates to
library and information services.
•	Identify considerations when selecting specific marketing or
promotion methods for use within their own library or information context.
•	Identify and evaluate approaches that might prove successful within
the context of a local Libraries Awareness Week.
•	Describe the main considerations when planning and implementing a
marketing strategy.
•	Engage with fellow participants in discussing issues connected with
the marketing and promotion of information services.

Places are available to any information professional who serves staff working
in the UK NHS. The course will be run over a period of ten weeks (eight
taught weeks and two weeks for completion of a portfolio). There will be a
two-week break between 22 December-5 January. Course materials are
delivered by email, Web pages and PowerPoint and participants should expect
to spend about 2-4 hours a week on course related activities over the
duration of a course. Further details of the FOLIO programme are available at:
http://cpdfolio.pbwiki.com/.

Instructions to register for a place on the ProMISe Course:

There are three ways to join the ProMISe course. They are all managed
through the FOLIO Jiscmail list:

Method 1: Via the FOLIO List Homepage.
From the list homepage http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/folio.html follow the
second link in the “Options” list: "Join or leave FOLIO". Fill in your email
address, name, and click on the 'Join...' button. Leave all other settings on
the default settings.

Method 2: Via Email.
Send the command: SUBSCRIBE folio <forename surname>
To either: [log in to unmask] or [log in to unmask]

Subject: The subject is ignored by LISTSERV, so can be left blank.
Message: Ideally, all that should be present in the Message body is the
command SUBSCRIBE folio <forename surname>.
Note: Your email address is automatically taken from your email, as is your
name if present.

Example: SUBSCRIBE folio Joe Bloggs

Method 3: Via the Jiscmail Subscriber's Corner facility.
Subscriber's Corner is a powerful tool for managing your subscriptions. Though
detailed to use at first but, once you get used to it, is much more flexible than
other methods.

From http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk select "Subscriber's Corner" from the QUICK
LINKS listing on the left-hand side.
When you are in Subscriber's Corner - On the left-hand navigation bar, type
in "folio" in the 'Search for List' field. Change 'Show' to "All lists" and then click
on Submit.

You should then see a table containing the "folio" list. Tick the box to the left
of folio, at the bottom of the table change the drop down list box
to "Subscribe" and click on 'Submit changes'. [DO NOT select the E-FOLIO list
as we are not using that list at the moment].

NOTE: Once you have submitted your request to join via any of these three
methods you will have registered a booking for the course. Please only join if
you are seriously considering undertaking the course. If your circumstances
change in the meantime please unsubscribe at your earliest opportunity to
free up a place for another person.

If you have any queries about the above, please contact us at:
[log in to unmask] and we will be happy to help.

Many thanks and we look forward to seeing you on the course!

Anthea Sutton on behalf of the FOLIO Team.
