Dear colleagues,
I've just been reading an article in Managing Information (1352-0229)
issue 6, 2008 p. 38 talking about the British Library's collection moves
strategy. From January 2009 they plan to start moving low-use material
from St Pancras to the new store at Boston Spa. Low-use material is
defined as that for which less than three requests have been made a
year. During the first phase of the move about 10% of the collections
will be moved to Boston Spa from St Pancras. It is possible that some of
this material will be foreign language humanities material, which is
sometimes made available on interlibrary loan. Because of the stringent
systems testing required, material moved during this first phase will
not be available for nine months.
I wondered whether colleagues were aware of this and its likely effect
on giving our readers access to foreign publications.
