March 27-28, 2009
The main goal of this meeting is to bring together researchers working in the
fields of social epidemiology, health sociology, and related fields, from a
comparative perspective. We are specifically interested in researchers involved
in the comparisons of European societies .
We would highly appreciate your contribution to this meeting and kindly invite
you to consider participation.
The meeting is roughly comprised of two interrelated parts.
In the first part innovative research in comparative health sociology or social
epidemiology will be discussed. Researchers are invited to make theoretical,
methodological or empirical contributions. The deadline for abstract submission
is December 15th 2008. We encourage presenters to send in full papers by
March 1st 2009. For this part we additionally invited two plenary speakers.
Clare Bambra (Dunham University) is invited to talk about Welfare States and
Health Outcomes.; Anton Kunst (Erasmus University) will talk about Social
Inequality and Health from a Comparative Perspective.
The second part implies a more informal round-table debate with experts in
the field. The main goal of these discussions is the fostering of future
collaboration among health sociologists in the field of comparative research.
More specifically, we want to discuss setting up a European network of
researchers interested in joining forces concerning both education and
research. We want to take a look at EU funding possibilities, and we also aim
to explore opportunities for collecting large scale health related information, for
instance, through designing a special module on health for the sixth round of
the European Social Survey. We invited Jaak Billiet (K.U. Leuven) of the
Central Co-coordinating Team of the ESS to elaborate on this.
We would like to start the meeting on Friday, March 27th in the morning, and
finish on Saturday, 28th in the afternoon.
Deadline for abstract submission: December 15, 2008.
