FACULTY OF MEDIEVAL AND MODERN LANGUAGES, UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD
SPECIAL LECTURE
Professor W. Daniel Wilson
(Royal Holloway, London)
“Goethe and Greek Love”
Taylorian Hall
Tuesday 18th November 2008
5pm
W. Daniel Wilson, who recently moved to London after many years at
Berkeley, California, has written widely on political and social aspects
of Weimar culture. His studies of Goethe’s political role, beginning
with /Geheimräte gegen Geheimbünde/ (1991), have aroused sharp
controversy, especially in Germany. He is now writing the first
full-length scholarly study of the theme of ‘homosexuality’ as it
appears both in Goethe’s life and in his work.
