A conference to launch the research report "Care and Support Needs of Male Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse"
www.crfr.ac.uk/events/malesurvivors.htm
Introduced by the Minister for Public Health Shona Robison MSP
South Hall . Pollock Halls . University of Edinburgh Tuesday 3rd February 2009 . 10am - 4pm
This conference highlights the findings of a major Scottish research project, into the care and support needs of male survivors of childhood sexual abuse, based on life history interviews by Sarah Nelson with adult survivors, and closely informed by their own perspectives. The project is a collaboration between CRFR, University of Edinburgh, and Health in Mind, funded by the Big Lottery Fund.
The conference will highlight in its main and parallel sessions:
. The effects of abuse and how boys and men are silenced . The impact on identity, masculinity and intimate relationships . When protection and interventions could make the most difference
. Impact on mental health services
. How institutions like schools, the armed forces and the penal system could improve services to help male survivors
Survivors will speak and leading Scottish policymakers will be invited to respond to our findings, so that proposals for practical change can be heard and discussed.
Conference fee £45.00 (includes lunch)
Please note: as numbers at this event are limited, we will get back to you during the week beginning 15th December to let you know if your application for a place has been successful
