The Shortlist 2009
Calling all composers and sonic artists...
Friday 27 February 2009
This is your chance as an emerging composer or sonic artist to set
yourself on the path towards a professional career.
The Shortlist is a group of the UK’s most exciting composers and sonic
artists. To apply, you submit one work, which can be in any style and for
any forces and media. If you’re one of up to 30 people shortlisted, we
will offer you performance, professional development and promotion
opportunities for three years.
If you’re selected for the Shortlist, there will be opportunities for
you to create new works for live performance events and installation
contexts, and also to develop professional skills in areas such as working
in film and theatre, and with children and amateurs.
Anyone of any age, born or resident in the UK, can apply – as long as
you’re willing to get involved and take part in new projects if
shortlisted.
We’re not looking for any particular style or form, nor for any
particular forces or media. The only brief we give the panel of judges is
to select what they feel is the most exciting new work. Works can be
acoustic or electroacoustic, installations or pieces for live performance,
and for western or non-western instruments.
The music is judged by a panel of experienced composers, sonic artists,
performers and programmers. We are interested in your music, not your CV,
so submissions are assessed anonymously.
For full information and to download an application form, visit
http://www.spnm.org.uk/?page=activities/callForWorks.html.
Alternatively you can call the spnm office on 020 7407 1640 to request
information by post.
And spnm is changing… We are merging with the British Music Information
Centre, Contemporary Music Network and Sonic Arts Network to create a
brand new organisation, Sound and Music. See www.soundandmusic.org for a
preview of the future.
