Hello,
Rather haltingly in view of my IT illiteracy, I have just managed to join in the DRN.
Would be interested to hear from anyone who is also engaged in exploring how handwritten
texts can be drawings. Exhibitions and reproductions show the products of some artists
(past and present, known and anonymous) but their processes and intentions are less
accessible.
In particular, I am concerned with creating and communicating unity between handwritten
literary narratives (as distinct from the single words or short phrases that feature in
concrete poetry, graffiti, witty art-cards or advertisements) and crafted visual images (as
distinct from calligraphy, oriental or western brushwork, and any form of illustrated
manuscript), or - to put it more simply and colloquially - I want to send visualised letters to
people.
In posting this message, I hope to begin locating and informing this emergent practice in
the ideas and observations of others .....as well as in those I have evolved for myself.
Indeed, the very act of putting this message together has already provided a vehicle for
reflecting more critically on what I am doing with these drawing.
