Dear Colleagues
I wonder if anyone can help.
Whitechapel Mission (a day centre for homeless people in East London)
has approached me to talk about some of the possible impacts of the
London Olympics on their clients and service. The Mission is on the
Mile End Road, very close to the main Olympic site, and part of the
main thoroughfare to the games.
Thinking about experiences elsewhere, we were able to talk about some
possible impacts - most obviously, perhaps, an escalation in high
profile policing and the clearance of homeless people from this area
as the Games approach, and the impact of redevelopment linked to the
Games on private sector accommodation and rents.
But I wondered if anyone out there has done/is doing or knows of
anyone doing research on the likely impact of the games on the east
London area - or the impact of related such events on homeless people
in the past - that I might be able to pass on to the Mission, or even
to put that person in touch with the Mission directly so that they can
talk?
Hope someone can help
