Actually 4GB is fine for 32 bit Linux:

(You can actually go up to 64G with the proper kernel config, although
beyond 4G I would switch to a 64 bit OS)
My understanding is that 32 bit coot runs on 64 bit systems with the
appropriate compatibility libraries.
