Research Scientist - User Experience Researcher
We are seeking a creative and proactive user researcher to join the Networking Technologies Laboratory, to help design technologies for collocated and distributed collaboration in a variety of domains such as emergency response, health, astronomy and scientific collaboration. The position will involve user research through the whole design lifecycle, using a range of different techniques as appropriate, from initial ethnographic explorations of domains, through iterative and participatory design, to evaluations of prototype systems in use.
Specifically, the role will involve:
- Planning and conducting field studies of collaborative work activities
- Planning and conducting evaluations of prototype technologies in real world contexts
- Creating actionable insights about distributed and co-located collaborative work
- Communicating findings to interaction design and engineering teams
- Informing technology design and innovation from empirical data
- Produce research publications in the area of HCI and CSCW
- Working in a cross organizational team as part of the HxI Initiative (http://www.hxi.org.au <http://www.hxi.org.au> )
The successful candidate will have
1. PhD in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) related field
2. Experience with HCI field and lab based user study methods and HCI design techniques, in particular ethnography, contextual inquiry, participatory design, design sketching, experimental design, storyboarding
3. Experience informing design from user studies
4. Experience with HCI research through active project involvement
5. Conference and/or journal publications in the areas of HCI and/or CSCW
The position comes with a competitive remuneration package based on level of experience. Relocation assistance will be offered to appropriate candidates.
