Dear Michele,
Intriguing topic, but I am unable to confirm its existence in
circulation. I'm sure someone, some where on here WILL know however.

Subject: [BBC-HISTORY] Alan Clarke TV play
Hi all -- below is a query from a grad student here. Can anyone help
with this? Thanks much for any advice. -- Michele
Alan Clarke is a British filmmaker whose films were largely funded by
the BBC and whose name tends to be mentioned whenever people are talking
about "Bressonian" filmmakers. I've tracked down a few of his films,
including SCUM (1979), but some are difficult to find. I am currently
looking for a copy of a TV play he once directed for a BBC1 TV series
entitled "Play for Today." The play's called "A Life is For Ever"
(1972); it's supposed to be indebted to Bresson's A MAN ESCAPED. It was
aired on Monday 16 October at 9:25pm, and re-aired on 11 July 1974 at
the same hour. A recent book on Clarke writes: "Although the BBC have
no copy in their archives, I understand that there is a print in
circulation." I've checked WorldCat and there's no mention of it.
Would you have any contacts at the BBC who might verify this for me? Or
who might be of assistance in tracking down a copy of the play?
