Dear list members
There is a proposal to change the way in which the Manchester Metropolitan University
Library organises its resources.
Currently, the stock is organised along subject lines with a floor being designated for
major subject areas. For example, the Art and Design Library is located on the ground
floor and contains all of the resources that are relevant to this subject area, including
books, journals and a collection of exhibition catalogues.
The idea is to move to a fully integrated library with all books being arranged in a
single sequence, arranged by ascending class number, and running throughout the whole of
the library. Separate collections, such as the exhibition catalogues, would be interfiled
into this sequence, and there would be a single run of journals arranged alphabetically.
Also, separate subject help desks would be replaced with a single centralised desk.
It would be interesting to hear if any other Art Libraries have undergone a similar move,
and if so, to find out what your experience (and students experience) has been of such a
change.
Thank-you.
