Offering Culture Through Archives: using archives creatively
Due to the popularity and positive feedback of its June 2008 conference
programme AfELG has decided to rerun this event. We have managed to arrange
many of the same speakers and have attracted a few new ones to the programme!
The aim of the day is to look at the Cultural Offer and its impact on the
archival community. There will be a mixture of talks about the Cultural
Offer and a number of case studies on using archives in a creative way to
explore the idea of culture and how offering culture can be achieved.
Speakers will include Durham Record Office and Dorset History Centre on
their experiences of being a Cultural Hub, and Jan Pimblett Principal
Interpretation Officer at the London Metropolitan Archives on the impact of
national policies on learning programmes in the heritage sector. The case
studies will look at projects from around the country including the Royal
Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland, the archives
at Waltham Forest Council's Museum, Gallery and Archives Service at Vestry
House Museum, an online collaborative project between TNA and the National
Monuments Record, and the John Murray Archive.
Full details of the programme will be made available shortly.
Costs are £40 for SoA members and £50 for non members (including lunch and
refreshments) and booking should be made through the Society of Archivists:
