The Scottish Council on Archives (SCA) was established in 2002 to develop a
shared vision of the future development of archives and records management
in Scotland. As a result of recent funding from the Scottish Government, the
SCA seeks to appoint three full-time posts. These posts present a unique
opportunity to shape this organisation to become an authoritative common
voice for the archival community, including service providers, users, record
owners and policy makers.
All of the posts are fixed term until the end of March 2011 and based in
central Edinburgh. Travel within Scotland and the UK will be required.
Director of the Scottish Council on Archives (£45-47,000)
You will be responsible for developing and implementing policy at the heart of
a rapidly changing archival agenda. As the public face of SCA's continuous
communication with other agencies, stakeholders, politicians and the media,
you will lead the Archives Awareness Campaign in Scotland and other
advocacy activity. Answerable to a monitoring group of voluntary office-
bearers, you will manage the SCA office and line-manage the other two staff.
Educated to degree level and with substantial experience in the cultural
sector, you will demonstrate first rate advocacy skills, the ability to rapidly
master complex issues and strong strategic planning and organisational skills.
Development Officer (£25-28,000)
You will assist in developing and implementing policy at the heart of a rapidly
changing archival agenda. You will help foster continuous communication with
other agencies, stakeholders, politicians and the media, and co-ordinate the
Archives Awareness Campaign in Scotland and other advocacy activity. You
will be answerable to the Director.
Educated to degree level and with a relevant professional qualification and a
minimum of one year's experience of working in archives, records management
or conservation, you will have a good current understanding of the sector in
Scotland and beyond, and excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
Administration Officer/Events Co-ordinator (c £21,000)
You will administer the SCA office and co-ordinate and manage a programme
of events throughout Scotland. You will also assist on the Archives
Awareness Campaign and provide support to the Development Officer and
Director. You will be answerable to the Director.
With a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject (or equivalent
experience), you will have a high-level of inter-personal skills, strong planning
and organisational skills, and a high degree of computer literacy.
