Temporary Archives Assistant post available at the British Antarctic Survey for Jan to March 2009
The British Antarctic Survey (BAS), part of the Natural Environment Research Council, aims to undertake a world-class programme of scientific research, and to sustain for the UK an active and influential regional presence and a leadership role in Antarctic affairs.
The BAS Archives Service, which holds records reflecting all aspects of the Survey's activities since its origins in the 1940s, is currently seeking a Temporary Archives Assistant to join our small team. This is a temporary position, funded for 11 weeks.
Duties will consist mainly of listing and editing database entries under the general direction of the Archives Manager and the Assistant Archivist.
We are looking for an enthusiastic person with an ability to learn quickly and with good literacy skills. It is essential that you have an eye for detail, excellent keyboarding and data entry skills. Previous experience of working in an archive office or of creating or editing electronic catalogue records would be an advantage, as would some background knowledge of science and Antarctica. This post is ideal for someone wishing to gain experience before applying for a post-graduate archives course.
Qualifications: 5 GCSE (Grade A - C) or equivalent including English and Maths
Duration: The post is based in Cambridge and is full-time (37 hours per week). We are looking for someone to work from early January to the end of March 2009.
Salary: Salary will be in the range of £14,330 - £17,870 per annum pro rata. You will be entitled to 30 days annual leave pro rata, flexible working hours and free car parking.
