Thanks all for the comments, and Mark, your rewrite is stimulating. I
probably wouldn't cut it back quite so much, I still would like to
preserve a ghost of the AS word patterning, but there's certainly room
for trimming... though I've noticed that as the translation continues,
Beowulf is talking more and more like a character in The Good, The Bad
and The Ugly. Maybe some way of dealing with the courtesies will
naturally evolve through the poem.
